New years is a time for both reflection and looking forward.
2008 was a pretty busy year for me and my family far as life changing events go. I finally moved out of my parents house into my own place. My Grandad died. My sister’s dog Busta died. I went through 3 cars. I got into photography. And lots of other smaller stuff..
There’s a few things that I want to do with 2009. I want to start Facepunch Studios as a ‘real’ company. I don’t mean employing people and shit just yet, mainly just for the tax stuff. I also want to get an indie game out (Something that is nothing like GMod!). I want to carry on fixing/improving GMod. At the moment I’m kind of done with respects to tools and stuff in the sandbox mode.. but I’m interested in pushing the gamemode angle a bit more. We might also see an engine change/upgrade, depending on whether we can work out the details. I really don’t want to lock out the non dx8 people here. I wouldn’t mind having an holiday either. My last real holiday was when I was 18, so I wouldn’t be adverse to going somewhere sunny where they don’t have the internet for a week or two.
It’s nice to have goals for the year I think. I’m sure I’ll still be blogging this time next year, so I’ll see how many I complete.

Even if you go somewhere sunny, without the internet for a week or so, I bet you any amount that by the end of the first day, you’ll have already pulled your iPhone out for mobile browsing at least 20 times.

Anyway, take a vacation, with the work you’ve done, it’s rightly yours. Also it’d be interesting being known as a figurative employee, and says Facepunch Studios Incorporated or the like.

Since you want to focus on stuff other than build maybe you can officially remake all the old gmod 9 gamemodes even tho some of them have already been remade but many are no longer supported and all buggy

About the engine update. Apparently TF2 is gonna be updating its engine to incorporate a lot of improvements from the L4D version of Source and be a LOT more reliable than it is now without kicking out DX8 players. If it turns out to be as good as it sounds, maybe you can consider using that. I know nothing about engines and whatnot, but it might be something to consider.
I have always thought Facepunch should form in to it’s own nation. Garry would be the benign dictator, Hezzy would be the Commander and Chief of the military forces, and Mikfoz would be Librarian at the Library of Facepunch. If you were to tell Facepunch tomorrow, that if they could find an island to fit the people of Facepunch, you would start a fully fledged Facepunch Nation, you’d have yourself an island very soon.

Don’t make your own Indie games. Well, do. But get people to give you ideas, then pick ‘em apart and make games outta those ideas. Otherwise, we’d just get “Garry: The Game.” And quite frankly, despite it’s initial appeal to Garrys Mod fans, that’d just get boring.

None of this will happen. You’ll release an almost finished game in 2 years. remember a “gamemode a month”?
