Five of the “best” HL2 mods are going to hit Steam this week. Hit steam proper.
Which is great. Steam and money have made me into a lazy cunt when it comes to playing mods. The only one of those I’ve played is Insurgency, and I stopped playing it once it was out of date (And when the other players started getting good) (And when I found out how easy it was to cheat).
Missing from the list is Dystopia, which I thought would have been a shoe in for this kind of thing (didn’t Valve fly them out and help them with it at one point?).
No Empires either. Empires definitely deserves a bigger audience.
But totally a move in the right direction. I thought I’d better comment on it since I’m the self elected king of HL2 modding.
I wonder when Gmod is hitting steam…

Zombie Panic is really the only mod that im interested in, though.
I’m sure they’ll do some sort of monthly “Featured Mods” thing. They’re probably doing this just to test the waters and see if people like it.

Never played any of those mods. I hope the Steam administrators hold them to high standards of patching and quality. This could help bring the modding community for HL2 back to the lively state it once was.
For that skin hack, that works in all servers, for all source games. That includes TF2, gmod, CSS, etc.
Oh, unless sv_pure is set to 2.
Man, Empires was fun. Can’t wait until planes are thrown into the mix.

P.S.: I think Valve sort of elected you as well… and the people buying gmod… and especially the people not buying gmod and shouting you should release it for free.
I’d like to see this done with Fortress Forever, maybe then it’d gain more popularity. On the other hand Valve doesn’t like FF so it probably won’t happen.
@13 the specific skin hack shown in the video wouldn’t work with most source games since it violates sv_consistency, which is turned on for most servers. i’m not about source mods since i don’t know how/if they check file consistency.

I think the D.I.P.R.I.P and Synergy Could have been Empires and Dystopia. Hell even Jailbreak beats Synergy!
Empires mod really needs more players, at the release we had over 50 servers, now we have only 20.

try Fortress forever(remake of tfc whit hl2 graphix)
and try too Black mesa source(when they release it)
Any Source game is pretty easy to cheat in. I made a wallhack that has a skinhack in it a while ago. Pretty sure VAC didnt pick it up either.
SV pure will stop you in your tracks tho.
Try empires if you get the chance, one of the best mods ever.
I heard somewhere that the choice of mods for steamworks was based on the best mods using the orange box engine. Hence no Dystopia or PVKII because they haven’t switched over yet.

I like the Steamworks (I am right aren’t I?) idea. I got synergy adn it seems much better than the origional mod did, mainly due to the fact it keeps updated :D.
But there needs to be moer single player mods on the store, Minerva: Metastasis maybe?
