Ok so it seems that the client.dll I released yesterday doesn’t fix the problem.
From what people are telling me this bug seems to be mostly effecting Radeon cards. I can’t reproduce it on my Nvidia.
I’m planning on releasing a patch over the weekend with a few changes that may have fixed it but I can’t be sure as I haven’t found any obvious reason for it to be happening.
Could be right considering that i have a radeon card :/
It seems that the text-error dissapeared on my server (I run a client-server) when I removed the Phoenix model pack, reinstalled 9.0.1 and cleared the mod-cache.
I’m not sure if it will keep working.

It happened once when I piicked up a weapon. At my friend’s house, it happens all the time. He just restarts Gmod and its regular again…
I’ve only had text corruption happen once, but whenever I use the gravity gun (orange) there is a vertival line above the crosshairs, and some random character below them. I have a Radeon X300 by the way.
Perhaps instead of using our donatations to buy Battlefield 2, Black and White 2, Sony PSP, and GTA:Liberty Stories, you could actualy use the money to buy a second PC with ATI card for testing GMod on more than one video card!

I have the text corruption too, it’s there all the time, whenever I start up gmod it’s there already.

Only seen it once, yesterday, while playing gm_hugeflatmap_v4, then it stayed ’till I reopened the game.

I haven’t had this problem yet and I am using a GeForceFx 5200. It must be newer versions of video cards that are having this problem. Ha Ha Ha, all you people that spend money on your graphics card and it has corrupted text characters on the screen in Gmod. Ha Ha Ha.
It happens to me pretty often :( And to about 50% of all chars, and I’ve got these shits in console too :((, please fix it garry !! Or I’ll play 8.3 :D

i have a dual geforce 7800 gt’s and i get this problem to. i havent noticed this until i installed gmod plus. its mostly just weapon names. some other stuff in the spawn menu also with letters that begin with d’s

Garry, your information is not correct. The text bug disappeared after installing client.dll for me and 3 friends of me, so great work Garry!
I’ve had the problem on my 6800GT, I’m running XPSP2.
it would seem logical to assume that this problem has to do with the lua scripting now included in gmod, as this is the first this has happened in any build. i am also more inclined to believe this, as it only happened to me with the new client.dll after i was messing around with some scripts, and then the console text was messed up too

I didnt start haveing this bug till gmod 9.0 its very strange considering some people get it some dont, even though they have the same cards.
Happened to me a few times i have a Radeon x800xt 256mb. From the looks of it though, alot of people have this problem not just Radeon people.

Yukoshoo, go walk your ass into oncoming traphic. Ralph seems to be having the same problem, and whether we have high-end Nvidia or high-end Radeon (or mid-end for that matter) they’re all great video cards compared to yours and this problem will be fixed soon. Until then laugh it up.

Yes, it is madness, I’ve got the text over weapon slot too, and the client.dll havent fixed anything – it’s maybe even worse :(( as you can see from the shot :) pretty hard to constraint code in this :), can’t wait for the fix.
The patch fixed my text corruption problems…And i have a Radeon 9600 Pro….

It does it on me too, I have nvidia 7800 GTX SLI. I tried it on my non SLI and it didnt do it. But after that patch it fixed it for me.

I get text corruption on my GeForce 5700 Ultra.
I was just playing with a nvidia 6800 and i got the text problem too. I think it isnt the graphics card.
The text corruption only comes after I save. Every time I save again, more and more text disappears. Also my “z” and “y” switch (I have a German notebook) and some keys don’t react. Last week when I played gmod and saved 10 times in a game my laptop froze and the hard drive corrupted forcing me format the hdd and reinstall windows. I’m not sure if it because of an error in gmod or hl2 but it happened while I saved. Here my specs if it helps.

This happened for everyday up to now. all of a sudden i have text problems, but i installed that thing Garry released and it works again.
Well, the text corruption only affects construction tool titles in the top of the screen and also the text I type in the console, and it starts affecting them in that particular order.

i also have an Nvidia FX 5500 256. the text starts with just some things then after an hour it slowly degrades till even the crosshair is chinese text. some is gibberish but some is definately chinese or symbolic language or such. definately not corruption,, looks like languages are getting mixed up

I finally came across the text problem. It doesn’t effect my console but affects the text when the writing comes up that tells you:
“Thruster Undone” or whatever.

I think I have a break-through in this problem: (I guess)
I was messing around with treads, trying to build a real tank, all the text was fine. Then, the game freezes, like it’s cacheing something. Then, all the text is fucked up, and the game stops being freezed.

I started having the problem, then downloaded the experimental client.dll and haven’t had it since, so it may have fixed one cause of the problem, or maybe I’ve just been lucky since I downloaded it.

I have experienced the same problem, i have been playing ni windoewed mode with an NVidia card. I experience it a lot while playing around and testing my LUA script, this might be related to the problem it is a really huge feature and does use Hud and console text, the problem may lie within those sorts of areas. i’ll keep playing and see what i do when its triggered off.

I’ve only had the problem a few times. And yeah, I have a Radeon 9800. But I don’t really see much of a problem. I get it in my console and sometimes when I’m typing a message, but it hasn’t really impeded gameplay, so I don’t think it’s that big a deal…Usually if it gets to the point where I can’t stand it, I just restart Gmod…
I never had this problem until 9.0.1. It seems like the longer I play the more characters get corrupted until next time I run the game. I’m on a Radeon X600 XT.

in far sight and other mod levels in garry’s mod, I cant create poeple or things, or affect anything at all! bug, or am I (being a novice), just not doing somthing??? anyone can answere this, im sure.
I get the corrupted font problem while hosting a server most of the time after people join. It only appears in the chat box and scoreboard. Charecters that seem to be effected that I can remember specifically are “X, ?, W, 1, T, V” Q menu is not scrambled. I’m running a single GeForce 6600GT with Athalon 64 and 512Mb of RAM.
Yeah it does suck, but not so bad. I’ve started to learn some of it. It’s sorta weird, but it’s all good.
I’ve never had any problems with text corruptions, but if I do I’ll take note of everything that happens to help get it working again.
You cant create anything in the new gamemodes (except the build ones) because they’ve got rules.
Use gm_construct or any other non-lua gamemode (well.. even the standard gamemode is in now in lua, but you can do anything there) and then hold Q for the spawn menu and spawn something, then you can join some server with a construction map !Change the mingebag name before! and ask someone here, but not too much or they wouldnt like you :D
I now have the same problem I had with all 9.0+ Gmod versions.. I can’t load any saved games. And, yes, I tried the old trick of starting a game, then loading. It just doesn’t work. I have switched back to 8.3b.. much more stable. I do not like spending a great deal of time trying to create something and then when I go to load it back up, not being able to.. thus losing all of my work.
I think the Lua scripting is screwing with things… my personal opinion.

I think its the lua screwing things up in my opinion.
Actually, reproducing it is simple.
Just Alt-Tab out of the game several times. That’s all I ever do and i get it all the time.

I said I didn’t have that text problem before, but now I am noticing it and other things.
Does anyone have problems with any other textures? Also Does this affect any of your other source games. I have a problem with textures not working right. For example everything visible when I start a map is fine, but texture get skewed to look like lines and boxes of different colors. Is this just me?

Its happening on my GeForce 6800 GT with the newest drivers. My little brother with his 9600 radeon also has these problems.
I cant even run the game on my ATI 9600 Radeon, the screen just freezes before i can even start a game.
Happens every time on my 6600GT. I first noticed it on the names as I pointed to other players. It happened before I installed gmod+. I can’t seem to do anything to change how severe it is.
I get it too, after about half an hour. I don’t remember doing anything specific to trigger it.

I have this problem so bad that every single letter does this and i have to restart steam for it to go away my video card is a GeForce 7800
The text error only happens to me very little often, It useualy onle happens if I spawn custom content that gmod thinks has just been installer and then It buggers.
To reproduce it just install some kind of mod and map then go the the new map and use the mod then the text will feck up!

My steam insurgency mod use to work just fine and never had the client.dll problem. recently what i changed with my computer is my hard drive, it is a western digital EIDE 160 gig hard drive. i do not have much knowledge of how these processes work but some how the hard drive must be causing the error if it worked fine on my other one
