Today I made registration mandatory for garrysmod.org. You have to verify that you own GMod now before you can download. It works like this.
Which is simple enough really. At the time of writing 2,442 people have successfully verified their accounts and are downloading as usual.
This is awesome because you get to see the people that have pirated GMod complain that they can’t download stuff anymore.

I fail to see how this is going to anything more than waste everyone's time. People could easily get their friends with legit copies to download content and then reupload to another site. Oh well.

I think is an excellent idea. I can't say piracy bothers me, but piracy of indie games like Gmod does. Gmod.org is a great way to reward customers. This doesn't hurt legit customers (it takes a minute to do once), and it save bandwidth for Gary so he dosn't have to pay for pirates to download addons. Everyone wins (except the pirates).

Look this thing is very complex for pirates. Chances r they used the undead patch, so that means they cant download anything but the following: Gmod, Audiosurf, portal, tf2, half life 2, half life deathmatch, and a few other things. So thats how you get the orange box game for it to work. But when they add the undead patch to steam, it affects all the accounts on the computer. Also the undead patch says that you already bought everything. So when you go to actually buy gmod, it says you already bought it, so u cant buy it. If u wish to make a new account and buy it that way, the undead patch will also effect the new account. If u wish to unistall steam and buy gmod that way, then the orange box game will desipear from your computer, so gmod wont work. And for eatpb, so what, some of us dont have a credit card to buy it.
This is the way anti-pirating should go, no silly stable internet connection like with AC2. This way the pirates still get what they pirated, but the ones who buy get neverending extra's.

This is a pretty dumb idea. The idea of garrysmod.com for me was I can just pop on and download a map to get on a server. This is an unneeded measure to stop pirates that wont work. They can just ask friends for the files and what not. This is a dumb, un-needed waste of time that is definatly wasting my time. It also bangs out the fact of people going to garrysmod.com to get models for half life and other source mods you know. Yes, I do own garrysmod.

Garry, to make this a lot easier, you could make people temporarily change their names to a shorter code. That way they don't have to make their profile public and then change it then make it private again; they can just provide their private profile page URL (as in http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197blab... ), go Friends > Set Friends Name and quickly do that, click next, then quickly change their name right back. You'll get a lot less whining and complaints, I'm sure.

Also another fact, on garrys mod.org there is 125,534 members, but only 14,024 verified. out of that large percent of people who havent varified only about 20 percent may have not checked garrysmod.org to see the new update. So i wonder wats with the other big number of people who can verify they own garrysmod.

Hmm.. Before I had this game, I tried a pirated version of it so I could try the game out myself. (not undead patch, but just a zipped folder containing the game files.)
It was really fun, and the person who previously owned it added lots of addons. I had a lot of fun with the pirated version, and then I got enough money for the real version. It was one of the best things i've done with my money. As soon as I got it, I installed a few addons, and then more, and more… Then, the changes in this post came, and I made an account, simple as that. I'm really glad I bought this game. And, I think the price is actually a great deal. I get to use all my orange box props to build and pose, and just have fun with gamemodes. Personally, I liked the non-pirated version a lot better. :)

And for the persons that can download with no problems “it´s not their matter”, so their opinion of the Ver. Sys. is good (obviously)

I read alot of your comments in other garry.tv articles and I realized, that 10$ – 305 rubles, not a big cost, i may buy gmod, but the reason i use pirtate version for now is i didn't bought any game before and don't trust Steam. Farther i'm writing this comment farther i want to buy Gmod. So I need help to buy it. I own an Orange Box for 32$ for PS3 from Valve's products atm. Hope any person will help!
