Lets not bullshit about religion and good will among men. Christmas is about presents.
Receiving Christmas presents gets less important as you get older I feel. After you turn 18 if you’re still waiting for Christmas so you can get presents from your parents you seriously need to get a job.
That’s not to say that if you’re under 18 you should expect your parents to buy you everything you want at Christmas. To me there’s nothing more aggravating than a child with a entitlement complex. You are a bad child. Your parents have to work to make that money, and they’re doing that every-day for you, so try to make their life easier by thinking about their feelings.
I was lucky, my parents really went the extra mile to get us what we wanted when we were kids.
On my 16th Christmas my parents bought me my first PC. It was a joint Birthday and Christmas present because it was so expensive (£400, which might not sound a lot, but it was 10 years ago and when you’re a working class family and have 2 other kids to buy for – it’s a LOT).
There’s no doubt in my mind that without this present I would have a totally different life right now. But I also feel that if I’d have always got what I wanted in life I would also have a totally different life right now – because I wouldn’t have ever been bored, I would be lazy, I wouldn’t have time to be tinkering with programming and modding because it would have just been on to the next thing.
So don’t be ungrateful if you haven’t got the presents that you wanted. You’ll look back and be glad you didn’t. To paraphrase a great song, “you can’t always get what you want, but you get what you need”.
So what did you get for Christmas that’s gonna really improve your life?

A toolbox with some tools, which is awesome.
A small Apitek Camcorder 300 which is great to just have in your pocket in case something happens or to just make some small sketches or shit, or timelapses.
A bag with a chair built into it which is great for trips.
Then the usual stuff like candy and clothes.
Surprisingly great stuff I got this year, and all I wished for was a pair of gloves and a hat. Which I got.

Job at 18? Without proper education maybe. I’ll be 19 after finishing High School, and only then I’ll pick a career I want to start studying for.
So no, christmas presents are actually the most important when you’re a young adult. First own apartment etc, that’s when you actually NEED the money, furniture and stuff.

I got a Shure SM58 microphone and plenty of gift cards to buy extra equipment to go along with it.
It’s my first real microphone and first piece of “real” recording equipment, and it will help with my band as up until now we had no way to amplify our voices. Will be a very meaningful gift in the long run.

I feel rather spoiled, but my christmas present this year was help (both financially and organisationally) furnishing my new place.
I didn’t get any material gifts but i got an 11 day cruise in Scandinavia on Crystal Cruises one of the most luxurious cruises in the world with my family. It leaves London June 20. ill come visit you garry.
I do feel spoiled but to try to stop that I finally got a job. You changed my perspective of life slightly Garry, seeing the shit you went through made me realize that I’m lucky as hell at the moment. I’m going to try my best to succeed in life.
It wasn’t at Christmas, it was around then a few years ago. I met a person who taught me tons about how computers work, then he topped it off by practically giving me a free laptop. My best Christmas present was actually a shirt for a game company that went out of business a week later.
christmas does become more shit when you get older, anything i want i buy it now that im 19, ive always had a £100 limit for xmas and theres only me and my brother, but i only really ever want some games which i just normally get in the sales
