When I used to write a blog I would type it into WordPress using the HTML mode. I know HTML so it was a lot neater and there was less messing about.
I wrote an image plugin so I could just do <headimg url> and it would download that image, make a big thumbnail and link to it. I did that because posting images was such a slow pain in the ass to do in WordPress.
Those days are gone.
Windows Live Writer is awesome. I’m using it right now. Say I want to post a picture of this window right now? Just alt and print-screen to get it in the clipboard, and then paste.
And it’s there. That works with any picture you can copy to the clipboad too. Like if I want to post a picture I found on the web, just right click copy, paste.

And it’s done! Obviously you can add images from your hard drive too..
You can crop the image, resize it, make it link to the bigger version, change how the thumbnail looks etc..
Everything is WYSIWYG. So you can make images float to the left/right and let text float around it.

When you first set your blog up in it, you put your username, password and your blog URL (works with a LOT of diffe
rent blog software) – it downloads your blogs design. So when you’re typing your blog you’re using the font and proportions that your blog is. When you press preview it shows you exactly what it look like on your blog design.
When you publish it uploads all of the images (including thumbnails etc) to your blog automatically. So all you have to do is sit back and laugh.
And it uses PLUGINS! So if you don’t like the fact that the maps feature uses FUCKING BING – you can probably download a plugin that puts Google Maps in there instead..
So if you have a blog (or a news site that uses wordpress etc) I would definitely give it a try.
I seriously don’t know how I’ve managed to keep a blog so long without it.

I hope this means more blog posts
The Valve page, is that who created the different stuff, or who made mods etc?
I understood you had lots of fun with WLW ever since your Visual Studio Plugins post (because of the image formatting) :D
It’s truly amazing.
I recall having a glaring problem with it with WordPress I was unable to resolve and I was forced to stop using it. I totally forget what it was… I will probably go back to using it and will promptly remember in some annoying fashion. Maybe it wasn’t able to edit old posts? Maybe it’s a newer version and they fixed my problem?
Anyway my only real beef with WordPress’ editor is that it clobbers style tags that I use for custom styling on my “Downloads” page unless I edit in HTML mode.
Lily Allen… hee hee… she’s hot.
Oh that’s awesome, also lol’d at the 1 guy in scotland thing.
Lily Allen has serious ‘pig face’ in that picture.
I dont understand that latin text.
It’s like french.
It seems that this could be the dawning of the age of great Windows software.
It’s about time.
Thanks for telling me about this, I started using this for my blog.
Did you not notice Windows Live Writer when you were forced to update to the new version of Messenger? It’s an absolutely brilliant program, make blogging incredibly easy.
Microsoft is evil!!!
I may have to get and try this.
I love how you perpetually try to make it look like Facepunch is actually a nice place and that you’ve done any kind of job at all at creating a good and pleasant community.
When in fact Facepunch is a cesspool worthy of 4chan. And the one place on the Internet to be considered worse than /b/ is the bloody OIFY.
:D
I should probably have posted that comment on the Gold Member post, I swear I did. :/
I liked in your old blog posts where it had the JS window that popped up with the full-size image. Please bring that back garry :(
JS image popups are awful. We have tabs and middle clicking now.
Just get Firefox, download grease monkey and get Grease Lightbox. Is brilliant.
Nice! Might give it a go.
Also @10, it’s not latin.
Ever since you linked to it in a previous post I’ve been using it. I just make the page/post in Live Writer then Publish as draft so I do other options through WordPress. Love the program, thanks for linking it!
@23, yeah it is.
@WiPa:
Do some research next time.

Huh, strange you post a picture of Lily Allen when I’m listening to one of her songs. Fuck you, to be exact. :D
I’ve never had a blog before, and set one up with wordpress and, well, holy crap Windows Live Writer is awesome, the video embedding system is pretty damn cool. Thanks for alerting me to this cool software.
I just tried Windows Live Editor, and I have to agree. It rocks.
The only thing I don’t like is, it automatically installs to my C:\ Partition which is meant to be “System only”.
